10 Minute Trainer Reviews: Day Nine, A break from cardio

I enjoyed today’s workout, doing Yoga, Lower Body and Total Body. I think Total Body is becoming my favorite. I think its  because I really feel it working my arms, and that is definitely an area that I ignore, but also am concious of. Also, I have made progress! Raising the bands above my head I was not able to do at first, but today I was able to, no problem. Yoga was nice and relaxing as always, though today my shoulder started to bother me when I was doing the right angle stretch.

In addition to these workouts I really wanna start running on my own. There is a great bike path along the river, two minutes from where I live, and it is always so nice to run on, but unfortunately I have not found the time to dedicate to that. I know if I used my time more wisely I could probably fit it in at least 4 times a week, but it something I’ll have to work on.

10 Minute Trainer Reviews: Day Eight, Easy Workout Today

Today was an easy day for both my classes, and my work out. I only had one class today, from one-three. I woke up around 10 and did Cardio, Abs, and Yoga. After a week of these 10 minute exercises I have gotten comfortable and familiar enough with the moves that I turned down the narration of Tony, and played my motivational work out music in the background. Compared to other workout videos that I have tried to follow before, Tony’s narration doesn’t get on my nerves and  his crazy high energy is actually entertaining sometimes. But with the workouts starting to get repetitive I think playing my own music helps keep it exciting.

I really enjoy yoga, I wish it went on for longer.  I could sit in that Pigeon stretch for 5 minutes, its such an easy stretch but you feel it so much at the same time. After doing these workouts for a week, I feel like I know what I am doing, but the only downside to doing these workouts at home, following a video, is that I could be doing these moves wrong and have no idea. Sometimes if a roommate is around, I’ll ask if it looks like I’m doing it right, they would be the first to tell me if  I looked ridiculous.

I feel like this weekend was a little bit of set back. Friday morning after working out I was really feeling great, and feeling like I could already see and feel the affects of keeping up with these workouts. Then the weekend came, and I did drink, and slacked a little bit with my nutrition plan, so I just have to get back on track, and have now learned my lesson, that I can’t slack with the work out just because its the weekend.

10 Minute Trainer Reviews: Day Seven, Cardio, Yoga Flex, Total BodyForTOmWeTo

Today was a very productive day, being Sunday I didn’t really have a choice but to get my homework done. I slept in, but I didn’t waste any time getting my homework out of the way. After i finished my roommates and I took a walk to the grocery store and bought stuff to make a decent Mexican dinner. We’re trying to eat together on Sundays, so far we have kept it up but I am sure as school picks up it will become harder to do. After our little adventure I did some more work, then started the work out. Cardio is continuing to grow on me, and then it was followed by Yoga and Total body, which are becoming my favorites.  I struggle with the moves in Total Body that make you raise the bands over your head, but today I think I improved.

Tomorrow it will be Week 2, and so far it has not been hard to fit these work outs into my routine, I really like making it part of my day, and always feel good afterward.

10 Minute Trainer Reviews: Day Six, Yoga Flex, Cardio, AbsToday

Today I saved workout for the evening. I had some errands to do today, and I got a late start getting up this morning, but thats what Saturday mornings are for! My roommates and I made pancakes for breakfast this morning, which is not one of the healthy breakfast meals recommended on the nutrition plan, but I thought I would treat myself since there never is time during the week to cook and enjoy a pancake breakfast.

This was my second time doing Yoga Flex, and it it was a nice way to ease into the work out. I think I prefer starting with the yoga instead of finishing with it. It is crazy how much flexibility I have lost since I stopped dancing regularly. The wide leg stretch where you had to reach your hands out in front of you was a lot harder for me. I used to be able to press my upper body against the floor I could reach so far out. So again, I set another goal for myself, and that is to be get back the stretch I had when I was a senior in high school. Also, out of all the work outs, yoga flex seems to by the quickest. Unlike cardio and abs, I’m not staring at the seconds clock. Abs is starting to get a little easier, as well as cardio. I actually have started to look forward to cardio because I can guarantee that will get my heart pumping with in minutes. It’s a good thing its growing on me because as I look ahead at the scheduled workouts, it looks like there is not a day where it is not included. I think I like doing the work out in the evening on the weekends, because after a good shower, I feel in great shape before I go out for the night.

10 Minute Trainer Reviews: Day Five, Day Off

When making my schedule this year I made sure I would have no classes on Fridays. A four day week is a lot easier to handle, I’d rather work a little harder those four days if it means I can enjoy a three-day weekend. So not only did I give myself a day off from school today, I decided today would be my day off from the 10 Minute Trainer. It’s raining here and I everyone around me is lazy, and I wanted to join. Hopefully the weather gets nicer tomorrow so my roommate and I can go on our weekly Saturday run to Trader Joe’s :-)

10 Minute Trainer Reviews: Day Four, Total Body, Cardio, Lower Body

Much of today was spent debating whether or not today would be my designated “day off” that is planned in the 10 Minute Trainer guide. The past couple days have been stressful, and a nap was sounding so much more appealing than getting into work out clothes and repeating different exercises for thirty minutes. Finally I decided I would just do the one ten minute work out and see how I feel. It’s getting started that is the hard part. Starting out with total body, I was a lot more comfortable using the bands, so I was able to get more out of this time than when I had first done total body. Breaking a sweat after four or five minutes, I decided to do all three suggested for day four. It’s only day four, and though it has not become easy, it is easier to follow the work outs and transition quicker now that I am more familiar with all of the moves, and now, I am getting more out of my work outs.

Tony always talks about how every move is designed to work the whole body, and that no muscle or body part is ignored. When I do work out on my own, I think I only work two or three muscles at the most. I am excited to results throughout my body. I always neglect to do my arms, and after completing total body I could immediately feel how much I worked them.

With the weekend up coming up, I think I’ll save my day off.

10 Minute Work Out Review: Day Three, No More Morning Coffee

Our fully stocked fridge! I wonder how long it will last...

Our fully stocked fridge! I wonder how long it will last...

Today I woke up at 8:30, for the second day in a row. Even though it requires my roommates to shake me and turn the lights on to wake me up, getting up this early three days in a row has already been an accomplishment for me! I didn’t waste that much time before starting the workout. The 10 Minute Trainer has replaced my morning coffee for my boost of energy. Today was cardio again, I am getting more comfortable doing the different moves, so now I am not wasting half the minute trying to figure out what it is I am trying to be doing. After cardio was Abs, and I took less breaks this time. The ab exercises that start off in plank are the most difficult for me, so I usually do the easier option that Tony offers.

Today was also my first day doing the 10 Minute Trainer yoga flex. It was really nice to end the workout with some stretching. It had been a while since I have really taken the time to stretch, and it something I should do everytime I workout. I liked the 10 Minute Trainer yoga workout, it was definitely somethign I could handle. This summer I took my first yoga class, and it was not at all what I expected. I did not expect to break a sweat and feel my muscles burn, and despite being the youngest one in the class by at least 20 years I was struggling most. But hopefully as these workouts become more routine that will not be the case anymore!

As far as the nutrition plan has been working out for me, so far I have been eating very healthy at school. Not even having junk food in the kitchen makes that not even an option for me, and being so busy with classes I do not have the time to snack. So far my breakfasts have consisted of Cheerios or a cup of yogurt with some fruit, like suggested on the meal plan. The most difficult thing to follow with the nutrition plan is when to eat during the day. With classes back to back I can’t always eat every 2-3 hours, but I do my best!

10 Minute Trainer Reviews: Day Two, So far so good!

This is my official "before" picture.

At last my arms are no longer sore after moving in all my furniture, so today it was not hard to get into workout mode. I started with Total Body this time, which mostly used the bands, which I have to get more comfortbale using I think. It started out with doing push-ups…what a rude awakening. When I danced we would have to do 20 push-ups in our warm-ups, which I had no problem doing back then because it was so routine. Today I struggled with doing five before I switched to bending my knees. Im sure in time they’ll become easier though. Then I did cardio, some of the moves I really liked, some of them I could not wait to finish, like the ones that looked like you would do them at football practice. I finished with lower body, which I did yesterday and really liked.

Today I did the workout after I was done with classes for the day, I think I prefer starting my day with the work out, but on days like today, getting myself up for 9:30 class is hard enough. Tomorrow I’ll start my day with the work out and then start my classes in the afternoon.

Now that I have done my 10 MInute Trainer I am going to go on and do my least favorite hidden workout ever…a trip to the art supply store. As an art student I always have to walk about 15 blocks to the nearest art supply store and stock up on heavy and painful to carry art supplies and then walk back…that definitely makes me break a sweat.

Also, I forgot to mention that my sister is a friend of Jen…she has begun the p90x workout, you can read about her switch here. When I heard about her results from 10 Minute Trainer I wanted to get involved and see them for myself, and so…I took over!

10 Minute Trainer Reviews: Day One, Back to School

Hey everyone! My name is Hannah and as of today I have started the 10 Minute Trainer workout program. I am a sophomore in college and today is also my first day of classes. It is great to be back at school. The past two days have been very hectic, moving into my new apartment and getting situated. My arms were actually sore this morning from all the heavy lifting I was not used to doing.

I waited to start 10 Minute Trainer until I was back at school. I had a great summer, traveling and going on adventures with my friends, but it completley lacked any routine. Now with school and a set schedule I am ready to make these workouts part of my daily routine. In addition to the exercise there is a 10 Minute Trainer Nutritional plan to follow, which I am planning to follow the best I can. Again, as a student my food funds are limited but so far I have only stocked my kitchen with healthy food. Last year, with a meal plan, it was almost impossible to eat healthy at school, and I am afraid I was a victim of the freshman fifteen.

I have never been an athlete, but for the most part have always been in good shape. I danced for 12 years, which kept me fit and active, but now that I am at college I have had to stop taking dance classes and have to find other ways to exercise. So far the 10 Minute Trainer has been very convenient. Today I did a total of thirty minutes. Cardio, Lower Body and Abs. Three minutes in to the first set I was sweating and I knew that after thirty minutes I would feel truly worked. Out of the three I liked the Lower Body the best. The Abs work out was really challenging for me and I had to take small breaks through out that one. So one of the first goals I have set for myself is to soon be able to do the Abs set without taking any breaks.

So now that I have worked out, I am going to make myself an egg white omelette before I go to my first class, where it will reallllly hit me that I am  back to school for another year of working hard and playing hard. And hopefully by the time I go home for Christmas break  I will look and feel in much better shape than when I had left.

10 Minute Trainer Reviews: Day 28 Cardio/Yoga/Total Body

10 Minute Trainer Week 4

10 Minute Trainer Week 4

Today has been a wonderful day. I woke up a bit early. My throat was killing me as well as my head (wait a mintue, that doesn’t sound wonderful……but it gets better). I played some World of Warcraft with my family. Yes I am a total gaming geek. I admit it proudly. It is a great way for all of us to get together though. My family is scattered to the four winds (my father has always called us gypsies), so it nice to be able to get on this game and talk and play together. That took up about 2 hours of time this morning. My son didn’t seem to mind. He was watching cartoons, playing GI Joes, and playing his Wii. Nice relaxing Sunday morning. The kind you probably remember from your own childhoods. After we wrapped that up we went to the store and out to lunch. I still manage to eat healthy when we go out. I had a ceasar salad, with the occasional sneak of the son’s waffle fries. Once home I did my workouts. I must say I didn’t give them my all today, which is kind of sad considering this is my last day on this program. I completely them. I made it through all 30 mins. I just wasn’t as pumped as usual. It was such a beautiful fall day out though, and all I could think about was being outside. So we made up for it by going to the Saratoga National Historical Park. For those of you that don’t know this is a battlefield where part of the Revolutionary War took place. Huge, beautiful open place that has trails running through it. So we killed two birds with one stone. We managed to get some exercise and teach the kids a thing or two about history. We chose to do the Wilkenson Trail which is 4.2 miles through various fields, woods, creeks, and hills. Some of the views were absolutely breathtaking. I was very proud of my kids too. They made it the whole 4.2 miles without whining or asking to be carried. For 7 and 4 that is VERY impressive. We saw 3 deer while there too. My dog nearly lost her head trying to get at them! So now you see why I said today was a great day. Just one of those days you know you’ll rememebr when you’re old.

Well gang, I guess this is where we part paths. Don’t get too sad though. My friend’s sister is picking up right where I left off. I will still be stopping by and checking up to make sure you guys are still sticking with your programs too! But I start the big one tomorrow….P90X. You guys should come visit me over there too. It’s www.90dayreview.com. I hope to still hear from some of you. Keep up all of your hard work!
